Himalaya, by Michael Palin.
One of the many great things about Michael Palin are his typically English views
during his intrepid travels. The understatement, the subtle dry humour combined
with his adventurous sense of the need to travel, to see and introduce us to his
own experiences around the world. To achieve these journey’s, life in the raw, and the reality of life which he shares with us. He is the epitome of the
expression, ‘It is a far better thing to travel, than to arrive.’
At the same time, one is conscious of the teamwork of his colleagues who share
these adventures with him. They add considerably to the projects. as he is then
able to behave and communicate with ordinary people, men and women, which
would not necessarily be the case were he alone.
‘Michael Palin established his reputation with Monty Pythons Flying Circus and
Ripping Yarns. His work also includes several films with Monty Python, as well
as The Missionary, A Private Function, an award winning performance as the
hapless Ken in A Fish Called Wanda and, more recently, American Friends and Fierce Creatures. His television credits include two films for the BBC’s Great Railway Journeys, the plays East of Ipswich and Number 27, and Alan Bleasdale’s GBH. He has written books to accompany his five very successful travel series, Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole, Full Circle, Hemingway Adventure, and Sahara. He is also the author of a number of children’s stories, the play The Weekend and the novel Hemingway’s Chair. www.palinstravels.co.uk ‘

The pictures are superbly enjoyable and the whole work is uplifting for the armchair world traveller. The reason for including this great book as the background scenario of Bookbloggs is as a part of the huge contrasts between the classic novel, the autobiographical novel, the informative appraisal, the publishing guide and now this Himalaya magnificent travel book; potentially a monologue, yet rising far above that in pure excellence. A fitting background to what we are about.
There are of course thousands of books. Next to tree’s, the longevity of books is unassailable. This tribute is purely a literary statement out of which Bookbloggs.co.uk., was born and has emerged as a quietly growing web site offering a variety of expanding services to the writer and the reader alike.
